Locanda del Ghetto

Location

Locanda del Ghetto is located in Campo del Ghetto Nuovo, Venice’s historic ghetto, next door to the Jewish Museum. Guglie vaporetto stop, is only 2 minutes away and San Marcuola stop, on the Grand Canal, is only 5 minutes away. Locanda del Ghetto is ideally located in Venice’s historic center. Here you can experience the evocative ambiance of the old ghetto, visit museum and synagogues, and discover the typical flavors of the Jewish bakeries and restaurants in the neighborhood.

Built in 1561, Venice’s Ghetto is the oldest in the world. Over the centuries, it has preserved its characteristic architecture of tall, many-storied buildings that accommodated large jewish population. The six synagogues were built between the early 16th to mid-17th centuries by the Ghetto’s various Jewish communities.

Today the Ghetto is the center for Jewish religious and administrative institutions.

Secluded from the tourist hustle and bustle, the neighborhood is remarkably peaceful. Yet it lies just steps from the vaporettos that take you in only 10 minutes to the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Square, Murano the island of glass.

In a few minutes on foot from the Locanda del Ghetto, you can reach Ca’ d’Oro, the marvelous Gothic palazzo overlooking the Canal Grande and Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, epitome of Venetian Renaissance architecture, today home of the Venice Casino.
